In the News: Salmon farmers blew their chance for a seat at the table
Wild First applauds Karen Wristen, executive director of Living Oceans Society for her efforts to correct ongoing misinformation about the transition to land-based closed containment fish farms. In her response to a recent opinion piece in the Province from John Paul Fraser, director of the B.C. Salmon Farmers Association, Wristen rightly states that “the table is set” for this transition—and that like community members, First Nations, commercial fisherman, tourism operators and environmentalists, B.C’s salmon farmers were offered an equal seat at that table.“One might well observe that the industry had ample chance for discussion of a sustainable future and blew it,” Wristen writes.
