Salmon farming vessels depart Vancouver Island

Four vessels built to service Vancouver Island’s salmon farms are being packed up and moved to Europe for sale. This is due to the federal government’s decision to phase out open-net salmon farms.

“Open pen systems pose an existential threat to wild salmon.”

“I don’t want to see an industry that’s free to dump its waste, disease and pathogens into the environment to affect the food security of First Nations across the province,” says Bob Chamberlin – Chair, First Nation Wild Salmon Alliance.

It’s time to transition all remaining open-net pen salmon farms out of coastal BC waters.
