120+ First Nations unite with BC groups to remove salmon farms by 2025
In a show of unity, chiefs representing 120+ First Nations from across BC, were joined by leaders in the commercial fishing industry and tourism associations on Wednesday to encourage the federal government to move ahead with a plan to phase out open-net pen salmon farms on the British Columbia coast by 2025.
“We’re here together in unity speaking about our concern that open-net pen fish farm operations are a threat to the survival of salmon,” said Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, Gwawaenuk First Nation, O.C., O.B.C., Founder and Ambassador of Reconciliation Canada.
