Calls to stop open-net pen salmon farming in BC

In 2019, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent a mandate letter to the Fisheries Minister to transition open-net pen salmon farms from coastal BC by 2025.

“We’ve had two successive historic low returns and then we had the Big Bar Landslide, which stopped virtually all salmon from making it to the spawning grounds,” says Bob Chamberlin, Chair – FNWSA. “The time for bold leadership is now or we are going to loose the genetic diversity of the Fraser River.”

Over 120 First Nations and 75% of British Columbians expect the Prime Minister to keep his promise to #endthepens and protect wild Pacific salmon for future generations.
