FNWSA Ottawa Press Conference on March 7, 2023

The First Nation Wild Salmon Alliance (FNWSA), representing First Nations from across BC, met with leaders in Ottawa on March 6th & 7th to express clear, unquestionable and transparent support for Fisheries Minister Murray’s decision to shut down 15 salmon farms in the Discovery Islands. “This is the time for strong measures and clear actions to protect the embattled salmon runs in BC,” says Bob Chamberlin, Chair of FNWSA. The threats from open-net pen salmon farms are “hitting the salmon at the most vulnerable time of their lifecycle when they are juveniles. And it is at that stage that we need every protection possible to ensure that we have an abundant return to fill the spawning channels.” Watch full video here.
