Fisheries and Oceans Minister Joyce Murray made a long-awaited and controversial decision to close fish farms in the Discovery Islands of British Columbia. Joyce Murray talked to David Mckie of Canada’s National Observer about the risk to juvenile salmon swimming past the fish farms to the ocean. She said she looked at all the science and determined she had a responsibility to use the precautionary approach and refuse to renew fish farm licences.
