NY Times: Land-based salmon farming is the future
A recent article in The New York Times states: “Land-based farming is the future of salmon aquaculture.”
Science has consistently shown that open-net pen salmon farms harm wild salmon populations, polluting the surrounding ecosystem while spreading diseases and pests like sea lice.
“Every place where Atlantic salmon is raised in net-pens, the wild population has declined by as much as 70 percent,” says Catherine Collins, Co-Author Salmon Wars: The Dark Underbelly of Your Favorite Fish.
