PSF reports First Nations are leading wild Pacific salmon protection
New Pacific Salmon Foundation 2024 State of Salmon Report states that Indigenous communities are leading the way in protecting wild Pacific salmon “by revitalizing traditional systems of salmon management and taking legislative actions to protect salmon ecosystems.”
The 2024 State of Salmon report provides a data-driven assessment of the current state of declining wild Pacific salmon populations, highlighting the urgent need for action.
Implementing First Nations-led oversight and monitoring leading up to the 2029 ban on open-net pen salmon farms is a critical step toward fulfilling the government’s commitment to rebuilding trust and transparency in DFO science and management decisions.
