Social license for ocean-based salmon farms has expired in BC
Recently published data from Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) states that over 817,000 wild fish were killed due to open-net pen salmon farm operations near Tofino.
BC Premier, David Eby, states, “Net pen fish farms, I think it’s safe to say the social license for those that just sit in the ocean and cause the death of other fish in British Columbia, has expired. We know that those have to move into close containment systems.”
75% of British Columbians and 120+ First Nations have called for the removal of ocean-polluting salmon farms from BC waters by 2025.
