120+ First Nations support the federal govt.’s 2019 mandate
The First Nation Wild Salmon Alliance (FNWSA) is urging the federal government to stick to its plan to transition from ocean-polluting salmon farms in coastal BC waters by 2025.
The FNWSA position, which is consistent with that of the federal government, “is based upon court rulings, it’s based upon the auditor general’s report, it’s based upon the Standing Committee of Fisheries and Oceans, it’s based upon true peer reviewed science, globally and within this country,” says Bob Chamberlin, Chair – FNWSA.
FNWSA has identified over 120 First Nations that support the removal of salmon farms from BC waters. Despite this, federal officials have attempted to downplay that support, while considering 2-6 year licence extensions for open-net pen salmon farms in BC.
Wild Pacific salmon can’t afford to wait. It’s time to #endthepens.
