FNWSA criticizes DFO & calls for reform
The First Nation Wild Salmon Alliance (FNWSA) is criticizing what it says is the “gross mismanagement” of aquaculture in British Columbia by the Fisheries Department (DFO), as it calls for a separation of DFO’s conflicting responsibilities in both regulating and promoting aquaculture.
Bob Chamberlin, Chair – FNWSA, says the department must stick to its primary obligation of looking after the environment and fisheries. He also urges Canada to implement “a truly independent” scientific body to help inform government decisions affecting marine life in BC.
