New Fisheries Minister urged to phase out BC’s ocean-based salmon farms
Ottawa’s new Fisheries Minister is being urged to maintain a federal commitment to phase out BC’s remaining ocean-based salmon farms.
“The government has mandated this transition twice,” says Tony Allard, Founder – Wild Salmon Forever/Wild First. “There is widespread support in BC for closing the salmon farms off BC’s Coast.”
Open-net pen salmon farms, based in the ocean, have been closed in California, Washington State and Oregon, while BC is “lagging behind.”
